The office for Addictions Foundation of Manitoba (AFM) has moved out of Morden, and is now open in a new location on Main Street in Winkler.
The doors to AFM’s former location on 8th Street in Morden were closed on Tuesday, with the new office at 351 Main Street in Winkler opening December 1.
Chad Saxon – AFM communications coordinator says the move allows AFM’s services in the Pembina Valley area to be embedded within Pathways Community Mental Health Services office, which is a program offered through Eden Health Care Services.
Saxon says the move provides the opportunity for clients to have access to both AFM’s services and programming, and also the mental health services that are provided by Pathways’ team in one easy to access location.

“It also touches on some of the recommendations that were set out in the Virgo report, which talked about identifying priorities for improving access and coordination for both mental health services and addictions supports and services…it really gives our clients the opportunity for one stop,” said Saxon.
Saxon says one of the goals at AFM is to reduce the barriers for service, whether that’s barriers for AFM services, or whether that’s reducing the barriers that clients may need for from other organizations. In this case, he noted that would be Pathways.
Meanwhile, Saxon notes there will be no changes to services offered to clients in the Winkler-Morden area as a result of the move.
“We are still going to continue to offer community based services for adults, family programming, problem gambling services, youth and community based programs, school based services, and also the impaired driver program are just some of the services…but no change or reduction in services in the area whatsoever.”
