Heidi Friesen, designer behind the local fashion brand “Heidi-and-Seek Boutique” recalls her battle with anxiety starting about 6 years ago. It came to a point where she could not continue living life with the amount of anxiety she was experiencing without help. Her physician prescribed medication along with Counseling in order to be able to increase her quality of life.
“I have learned so much from my counsellor at Recovery of Hope, ways to cope with anxiety and occasional depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder and just anything that life can overwhelm me with. I believe that Mental Illness should be something we are more open about and that everyone can benefit from meeting with a counselor. I had an idea for a Mental Illness Awareness tshirt that will not only help people to feel heard but also provide assistance to those who need therapy.”
“My T-shirt design includes a smiling face and the words “I’m OK” on it, because some days are good and some days are bad, and it’s okay to not be okay. This is my way of promoting Mental Illness Awareness and along with that, $5.00 dollars from each tshirt sale is being donated to Recover of Hope’s fund for those who cannot afford counselling on their own. I could not be more proud to be able to help my community this way, especially because I can understand what it is like to live with Mental Illness.”
